Personal, Educational, and Career Issues

Counselling and Psychological Services supports student success by helping students achieve their personal, educational, and career goals, though individual counselling sessions and group workshops. We support faculty by offering a network of resources to which students can be referred.  Professors can consult with counselling staff about how to handle particular individuals or situations in class. Professors can refer their students to a single location where access to a wide range of services and information is available. We also offer crisis support to students who are expressing suicidal or homicidal ideation, severe loss of emotional control, impairment of cognitive ability, and/or bizarre or socially inappropriate behaviour. If you feel that a student could benefit from short term counselling to discuss concerns which are hindering their studies, or if a student is a threat to themselves or others, do not hesitate to contact our department to discuss the situation.

Academic Issues

Student Learning Services is committed to improving the quality of student learning and academic potential at Concordia. We help Concordia instructors by helping Concordia students. Through a variety of resources, we can help your students develop the learning skills and strategies they need to meet course requirements and better satisfy your expectations as their instructor. For example, we can help students think more critically, give better oral presentations, write better papers, and achieve better grades on exams. Students at all levels, undergraduate or graduate, and of all abilities can benefit from our services.

We help students from all faculties with:

  • Critical thinking
  • Academic writing
  • Oral presentations
  • Reading academic material
  • Exam anxiety
  • Preparation for exams
  • Math/Science/Engineering problem solving skills
  • Time management

Investigate the possibility of arranging for a Strategic Learning (SL) group to be attached to your class.

Career Goals

Career and Placement Services (CAPS) educates students about the job market and career options, coaches them through their job search process and facilitates their access to relevant summer, part-time, internship and entry-level positions. If a faculty member believes a student needs to explore job prospects, we offer a network of resources to which students can be referred. Faculty can consult with staff about job market prospects for students in their field. At the request of faculty, Career Librarians will compile career-related bibliographies of materials available in the Career Resource Centre.
